Real-time analysis of FM/DAB/DVB-T broadcasting

digital broadcasting

DigitalBroadcasting.org is a broadcasting data analysis service focused on digital terrestrial DVB and DAB transmissions. The website provides near real-time analysis of DVB-T/T2 and DAB transport streams received at multiple monitoring locations.

Each frequency is periodically scanned, and the captured transport streams are analyzed every few hours. The service provides detailed technical information about the transmitted multiplexes, services, and signaling data, making it a valuable resource for broadcasters, network operators, and broadcast enthusiasts.

In addition, each monitoring location includes a scan of the FM radio band with decoded RDS data, providing an overview of locally receivable FM broadcasts.

Currently, only a few receiving locations are in operation. The hardware required for signal capture and analysis is simple and inexpensive, consisting of a Raspberry Pi single-board computer and one or more RTL-SDR compatible USB dongles.

For each DAB multiplex, the website provides a table with basic service information as well as a table showing the Capacity Unit (CU) utilization percentage:

For each service within a DVB-T multiplex, the website displays a list of elementary streams, the codecs used, and a screenshot of the video stream.

For FM radio, each frequency is analyzed and the decoded RDS data is displayed.
